Phoenix Mesquite & Carob Milling, October 15 & 16, 2011 – Phoenix AZ
Hosted by the Valley Permaculture Alliance
(formerly known as the Phoenix Permaculture Guild)
Dates: Saturday & Sunday, October 15 & 16, 2011
Times: On Saturday: 9 am to 3 pm
On Sunday: 9 am to 12 noon
Location (both days): Rio Salado Audobon Center
3131 South Central Avenue, Phoenix
Cost: $10 for each 5-gallon bucket (or portion thereof) of whole pods
Other considerations: Be sure that all pods are dry and free of leaves, twigs, stones and other debris that might clog the mill or impact the quality of the flour. Pods will be inspected before milling to assure quality and suitability. The more careful you are in selecting your pods, the more quickly inspection will go! Pods that are contaminated with black mold or dangerous foreign matter such as broken glass (yes, it has happened!) cannot be milled under any circumstances. Your pods can be milled if there are bruchid beetles in them — as long as you are okay with a little extra protein in your flour! — as these beetles are not harmful to humans.
